Zach Rogers
I grew up on the south coast of Massachusetts. From an early age, I had an immense love for all things racing, from NASCAR to Monster Jam, and later on IndyCar, Formula 1, and more. The desire was there to pursue a real-life racing career, but nothing ever materialized. I attended Old Rochester Regional High School and graduated in 2015. I jumped from job to job over the next several years, selling knives, working as a fry cook, and doing many different warehouse gigs. Even now, I work a typical 8-4 day job.
ORIGIN STORY
From a young age, I loved to read. I started out reading books like the Magic Tree House series and Harry Potter. I later dived into manga, reading mostly Naruto but later got into Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball, and the like. I still read plenty of novels too, diving into Stephen King books like Black House and Under the Dome, and works by John Grisham like A Time to Kill, and The Client. Recently, most of my break time at work is consumed by reading manhwa on Webtoon. Stories like UnOrdinary, I'm the Grim Reaper, and Teenage Mercenary are some favorites of mine.
I started writing the first draft of Death Kraver during my senior year in high school but wasn't serious enough about it to put in a ton of work. Back then, it was more of an outline than an actual story you could sit down and enjoy. Two sequels, with some better descriptive writing, followed. After those were done, I took a quick break and evaluated my story up to that point. I went back and looked at the first book, realizing a lot of work needed to be done if I was going to be serious about it. So, in mid-2017, I went back and rewrote it, creating what I'd consider the first serious draft. I tried querying some agents but had no luck.
After a year and a half of off and on editing, I sought a professional opinion and discovered Reedsy. In 2020, I worked with my first editor and received invaluable advice, including some tips and suggestions for my writing. I sat down at the beginning of 2021 and applied everything I learned. After a grueling five months, in which I wrote almost every night, the new and improved draft of Death Kraver was complete. Following a copyedit, and a few more tweaks to some things I missed on my own proofreading, Death Kraver was ready for the world to see. Now, as the publication of it looms closer, the time to work on book two, Agent Zero, begins.
PATH TO BECOMING A HEADBANGER
I grew up listening to mainly classic metal like AC/DC, Metallica, and Guns N Roses among others, which many consider to be classic rock these days. Mixed in with that were new bands such as Godsmack, Puddle of Mudd, and Disturbed to name a few. I listened to some pop and hip-hop/rap as well but wasn't really into it. Once I got into high school, I dived further into metal, checking out bands such as Korn and Slipknot, two of my favorite bands to this day. I later got heavily into other metal genres such as Metalcore and Deathcore. Bands like Alpha Wolf, Motionless in White, Knocked Loose, Parkway Drive, and Slaughter to Prevail crank out bangers whenever they drop new music.
Tech N9ne and Insane Clown Posse are my go-to's for rap and hip-hop these days. I'm very particular about what I listen to when it comes to those genres. I prefer the speed rappers over modern rap, but anything with a good beat is something I'll listen to. I also listen to a lot of dance/electronic music like Excision and Bassnectar. Bands that mix a bunch of elements together are at the top of my list too, such as Hollywood Undead, Falling in Reverse, and Electric Callboy.
SIM RACING
When I have time, I enjoy competitive online racing on an old sim called NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. I've made many friends racing against people across the country and the world on this sim, winning races and some championships along the way. Road courses are my favorite type of track to race on, as I enjoy the challenge of having many different turns and figuring out how to get through each of them as quickly as possible.
