Since music is a big part of my life, I found that a lot of the stuff I listen to goes well with the story in different ways. On this page, you'll find a link to a YouTube playlist I created for user convenience, as well as what chapter the song correlates to in my eyes.

PLAYLIST HERE>>> Death Kraver Playlist

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW

“Speed” by Raizer – Chapter 1. We start off the playlist with a song all about speed and racing. This song will make you want to put your foot to the floor and wish speed limits didn’t exist. A perfect track for a story revolving around racing.

“Hypa Hypa” by Electric Callboy Chapter 1. You can’t go wrong with this song here. This is the song the teenagers are moshing to with the DJ as Enzo pulls up to the meet-up location. The lyrics to this song will get stuck in your head along with the rollercoaster ride it is.

“Shapeshifter (feat. Styles of Beyond)” by Celldweller – Chapter 3. For those of you who played the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted video game, y’all know what this song about. It’s another put your foot to the floor type song, with killer raps from Styles of Beyond and the heavy electronic-rock sound of Celldweller, perfectly accompanied by Klayton’s screams in the chorus.

“Blood Lust” by Body Count – Chapter 5. This song is all about the big, bad, General of Darkness; Bloodlust. Bloodlust is something all the Darkness drivers have one way or another, and they relish in the thrill of killing anybody who stands in their way.

“Solaris” by Celldweller – Chapter 6. When Switchblade enters the tunnel for the first time and makes his way towards Base 6, play this instrumental track. Celldweller doesn’t miss, and if you can get immersed in this story, this track just might give you chills.

“Breaking the Law” by Judas Priest – Chapter 7. This classic metal track is pretty self-explanatory. Darkness is speeding to their destination, hence, “breaking the law.”

“This is Not” by Static-X – Chapter 11. The opening scream on this track defines how Zeke feels about sitting around in an electric, self-driving car, while Enzo is speeding around the island having fun without him. It’s also another one of those songs that makes you want to speed down the highway.

“Hells Bells” by AC/DC – Chapter 13. If you didn’t notice in Chapter 7, Mad Dragon likes to play classic songs while they make their way from one base to another. This is one of those classics that fire them up, making them feel a little like Satan as they knock someone into the afterlife.

“Murder Go Round” by Insane Clown Posse – Chapter 14. If you’ve never heard an ICP song before, you’re in for a trip. Darkness ain’t a group of juggalos, but this is definitely something they’d elect to kill to.

“You Make Me Sick” by Of Mice and Men – Chapter 17. This song represents the perception other students are trying to define Zeke as. They want everyone to see him as a student officer who is abusing his power, hence someone who they can look at and claim “you make me sick.” The recording Noah later uploads to U doesn’t hurt Zeke physically, but exposes his “fangs” and frames him as a dictator, hence torturing him mentally.

“Break Stuff” by Limp Bizkit – Chapter 19. This is basically the soundtrack to the way Enzo’s day at school goes the day after Zeke gets arrested. He’s without one of his best friends, and can’t stand the he said/she said rumors going around about Zeke. The confrontation with Kevin Grayson sets Enzo’s shitty mood off, and he throws a punch as a result.

“Am I a Psycho” by Tech N9ne – Chapter 22. Smith’s ringtone and personal favorite.

“Bodies” by Drowning Pool – Chapter 23. This is one of those songs you see Death Kraver request Mad Dragon play in the actual story. By saying he wants to “make bodies hit the road,” Death Kraver is asking for this song to play while he has some “fun” on the highway.

“Mr. Happy” by Insane Clown Posse – Chapter 25. Death Kraver’s codename is just that for a reason. He craves death, whether by his hand or by another’s, he wants to see it and experience it. And that’s what makes him happy. Of course, having to cut off his murderous spree and limiting himself to three people when he wants to go for more can cause a certain amount of withdrawal, and that’s why the intruder was killed without an ounce of mercy.

“Anger” by Left to Suffer – Chapter 28. This song describes how fast Zeke gets pissed off. It’s a problem he has, one that he wonders if he’ll ever be able to solve. Will he find a way to control his impulsiveness, or keep burning everything in his path?

“Taipei Person / Allah Tea” by Stone Sour – Chapter 30. Hunter’s ringtone brings about a discussion of what to them is classic music. On top of that, the song’s play on words make it sound like the vocalist is saying “Type-A Personality,” which some of the characters have.

“Scrape” by Blue Stahli – Chapter 33. This is a perfect racing track, and fits the beating and banging nature of the race between Scarlett and Zeke. Sometimes you gotta scrape past someone to pass them.

“Car Crash” by Powermann 5000 – Chapter 34. This is another one of those self-explanatory songs. Zeke and Scarlett get crashed off the road by a person who, to them, has no name. Agent Six is a “first-place killer” and takes the win for himself.

“Panic” by From Ashes to New – Chapter 34. This song is about anxiety, something several characters deal with, but none as greatly as Scarlett. Scarlett’s anxiety was high when she was being chased, and after getting out of the car in a daze and not knowing where she was, it was at the point where only someone who has experienced something similar would understand.

“Decepticon (feat. Frankie Palmeri)” by Terrorbyte Chapter 38. This song describes Darkness’ attitude towards those in their way and those trying to stop them. Get in their way and you’re asking to get killed.

“Ready to Die” by Andrew W.K. – Chapter 39. This song just fits the scene perfectly in my opinion. The blockade of officers isn’t ready by any means, but Death Kraver and the others are fired up from this track as they activate their weapons and decimate every single one of them.

“Fuel” by Metallica – Chapter 42. The opening lyrics to this song say it all. This song is meant to fire you up for the race. Also, a true classic to metal fans everywhere.

“One Step Closer” by Linkin Park – Chapter 45. This song reflects Hunter’s current metal state. He’s doing it to himself, but he’s one step away from losing his mind. From the competition shit to the arguments with Scarlett, the next step could be his last before he explodes.

“Hit It Back” by Diamond Construct – Chapter 46. You can’t go wrong with this banger of a party track as you read about the new cars the teenagers are getting. Also, great song for any racing moments throughout the story, and the ringtone Enzo uses to notify him when Clayton calls him in Chapter 62.

“The Devil” by Blue Stahli – Chapter 49. Max Speed’s secret is revealed in this chapter; he’s just a mask, a persona worn by Draco. If you’ve read the entire book, you have an idea of how Draco is perceived by Enzo. He acts behind the scenes, pulling strings around everyone else. Darkness and NAUR follow his orders, and Inferno is unaware of the nature of what they’ve been forced into. One could argue Draco isn’t pulling any strings at all.

“Talk Shit, Get Shot” by Body Count – Chapter 51. Now, while the actual context of this song revolves around actual shit talking for us, Draco takes any sort of doubt in his power as just that. So, with that context in mind, Xraum was the one who got shot.

“Science Fiction” by Bassnectar – Chapter 52. Great electronic track to listen to when reading about Neova for the first time. The lyrics within describe the sensation Hunter feels as he drives along their highways.

“Walk With Me…” by Body Count – Chapter 54. This song revolves around Donovan Cage and the brutal attitude all NAUR and Darkness drivers are expected to exhibit. Donovan was a happy dude in the daylight, but behind the bull-headed NAUR helmet, he was something else. And almost all of the others live the same type of double life as he did.

“Super Villain” by Powermann 5000 Chapter 57. Switchblade gets handed one mission that would free him from Darkness by Draco, just for Zero to come in and give him another. He’s the big, bad super villain they want him to be. He’s been given one last important task before his time runs out, and he’s “dressin all in black.”

“All in Wait” by Static-X – Chapter 61. Another good racing song. Every time this track comes on, it makes me wanna move fast, whether it’s on my feet, playing a game, or behind the wheel.

“Gone Away” by Five Finger Death Punch – Chapter 64. Enzo witnessed Steven Johnson’s death, then found out about Chase Gomes’s accident a few days later on the news before police even had a chance to contact him. This is when things start to really effect Enzo mentally. He’s lost two of his mentors in life and wishes he could see them again. Even with his friends still around, the world feels a lot colder than it used to.

“Twist” by KoRn – Chapter 65. Enzo’s ringtone when an unknown number calls him. Also represents Zero’s decision to bring the wall that conceals the tunnel to RA6 down a day early.

“Bullet With a Name” by Nonpoint – Chapter 67. Mad Dragon didn’t use a bullet, but the missile he fired at Smith to kill him might as well of had his name spray painted onto it.

“Falling Away from Me” by Korn – Chapter 70. With Smith’s death still in his mind, and the discovery of bombs set to go off beneath the mansion, Enzo begins to feel as if everything is falling out of his control, or that he’s being beaten down further into depression. The thought of suicide has entered his mind, but instead he tells himself that it’ll work out, in the hope that they’ll be better tomorrow.

“Switchback” by Celldweller – Chapter 74. Inferno is running low on fuel, and Switchblade, now going by Switch, is unable to change their minds about what they’ve set out to do. They’ve made their bed, and now realize its too late for them to switch back.

“Life” by Seven Wiser – Chapter 76. At this point in the story, Inferno is struggling to find the meaning behind the competition. Switch tells them most of what they need to know, helping Clayton get a better understanding of what the competition is. But they are still far from truly understanding its meaning, and, by extension, the meaning of their lives within it.

“Feel the Adrenaline” by Adrenaline Mob – Chapter 79. From the drag race between Enzo and Death Kraver to their fight, adrenaline is coursing through their veins. The song is perfect for the story now, and in the future installments of the series, as everyone turns up their music and uses booster fuel to push their cars to their limits.

“Idol (feat. Tech N9ne)” by Hollywood Undead – Chapter 80. There’s a decent number of lines in this song that relate to Felix Smith’s true nature and why he has the codename Death Kraver. But it’s also a song that reflects Smith’s response to Enzo finding out the type of person he really is. Smith’s not someone Enzo should look up to, and he won’t be there to save him from whatever happens in the future.

“Goodbye My Friend” by Pop Evil – Chapter 83. Without saying a word, Smith follows Bloodlust’s order and walks away from Enzo while he holds Chase during his last moments. Smith lied to him, and now leaves him behind in misery to deal with the hell that is losing Chase a second time. You could also say this song is Enzo asking why the good times had to end, and why he’s been left in hell to figure out where Inferno goes from here.

“Razorface” by Celldweller – Chapter 85. A great instrumental track for the scene in this chapter. Perfect moment to start playing it is when Draco first sets course for the Robot World. Having this as a background track up until the end of the book is pure perfection, if I do say so myself.
